Okay so this isn’t a band per se and I can’t speak for any music you might hear at this event, but these three artists are responsible for a good but of the flyers and show posters that show up around our dirty city. And this poster is a rather twisted mash up of their talents.

If you make it to this opening (Next Friday, the 9th of April) your eyes’ll bug out at all the other crazy comic and poster art on the walls. Don’t miss it, and try a cup of the coffee while you’re there. It happens to be the best in town. Just sayin.

Born Ugly 5 and Pink Crack 8 – Zine Release Party

WTF?! Jim Callahan is unstoppable, or at least really persistent. If you love the sick posters he’s been cranking out lately and you haven’t yet creamed your panties to an issue of Born Ugly, then I marvel at your general lack of self interest. You probably don’t groom yourself often either.

Skate or no, its worth checking Born Ugly out for Jim’s comics and illustrations alone. Not to mention the Two Minute Hate column and all the interviews and features that are never half-assed like some other *ahem* local publications (you know who you are). With Born Ugly around I almost don’t miss Punchline anymore.

If you do skate then you should definitely check out Pink Crack as well. And you need to try to make it to this Zine Release. Unless you’re one of those awkward loner types, in which case you might want to get drunk first. Why else do you think everyone you know is always drinking? Cheaper than anxiety meds.

James “Barf” Callahan has been working hard this month. He’s got a lot of posters out on the streets of Richmond right now. I say keep ‘em coming, Callahan. Litter the streets and plaster the windows until everywhere I look in this fine city is Barf!

You always have to take your time looking at one of Jim’s posters. This is not just some brightly colored advertisement of the fun to be had at Hugel’s upcoming birthday party. Its also a comment on outsourcing and America’s job market, as illustrated by the tiny iPod man above the left speaker doing all the real work.
