Obits is quickly becoming a hyped up NYC rock band, and it’s easy to see why. Their debut album I Blame You on Sub Pop is full of surfy hooks and rock swagger (not to mention Rick Froberg’s signature vocals).

I showed up a little late, and unfortunately missed most of Cloak / Dagger’s set. What I did see was tight and full of energy, channeling the likes of Black Flag and Hot Snakes. I was a little disappointed that I had missed one of the two bands I was looking forward to seeing. Orphan was up next, playing their blend of two person bass and drum noisy hardcore. Bear Hands played next, boasting some odd indie rock tunes with interesting vocal melodies.

Finally, the wait was over, and the moment we’d all waited for was upon us, Obits took the “stage”. For the next 45 minutes, the crowd was set in a trance by their performance. They blew the crowd away, and it felt really great to see a band live up to it’s hype.
